Fethiye Hakkında

Fethiye is one of the most popular resorts due to its extreme loveliness. Set on a wide bay, strewn with many islands. The ancient name of the city is Telmessos and you will see a fortress on the hill overlooking the city which was built by Knights of Rhodos. Fethiye is known for its rock tombs carved into the faces of the cliffs by the Lycians. Other historical places in the city are the Sarcophaghi and the Fethiye Tower. On Tuesdays Fethiye is host to the largest market of the area.

The city was the first Lycian town along the coast is Fethiye, which sits a top the ancient city of Telmessos . The tombs in the nearby mountains date from the seventh century B.C. At Fethiye visitors can see Lycia ’s other famous ancient architectural form-the huge sarcophagi that are found all over the area. In fact it can be said that Fethiye boasts some of the best Lycian in the region, going back to between the 6th and 3rd centuries B.C. While you’re in there be sure to visit Oludeniz ( Death Sea ) where amazing chrystal water of the coast, specially recommended for swimmers (15 km to Fethiye). Region also know by the fans of Mountain Paragliding available on the Babadagi.

It is famous for its works of art belong to Persians, Lycians, Carians and Romans. This charming county is in a bay within Fethiye Gulf where both large and small islands are scattered. The rear of the bay is surrounded by pine forests. 

The ancient name of Fethiye, which was a coastal city at the borders of Lycia-Caria, is Telmessos. There is no definite information about the foundation of this Ancient city. According to the first written records, it has came into existence in the 5th century B.C. Telmessos, separate from Lycia, survived as an independent city for a long time. The city experienced the rule of Persia, Alexander the Great, Rome, Pergamum Kingdom, Byzantium, Menteşeoğulları Principality and Ottoman State respectively.
